چکیده

Present methods for the determination of sulfide in wastewater are hindered by poor detection limits and extensive sample pretreatment. A less problematic method has been developed with a method detection limit of 2.5 μg L-1. With this technique, sparged hydrogen sulfide is precipitated in an acetate-supporting electrolyte by electrogenerated silver ions. Analysis of basepreserved samples was performed with no pretreatment other than volumetric dilution. Metals, halides, and nitrogen-base salts were studied as possible interferences to the method. Direct comparisons with the standard methylene blue method were made for both municipal and industrial wastewaters. The present method was found to be far less inhibited by sample turbidity.

Pulsed quantum-cascade laser-based sensor for trace-gas detection of carbonyl sulfide.

Simultaneous exhaled carbonyl sulfide (OCS) and carbon dioxide concentration measurements in human breath are demonstrated with a compact pulsed quantum-cascade laser-based gas sensor. We achieved a noise-equivalent sensitivity (1sigma) of 1.2 parts per billion by measuring a well-isolated OCS P(11) absorption line in the v3 band at 2057.6 cm(-1) using an astigmatic Herriott cell of 36-m optica...

II 1 iI n d Control of hydrogen sulfide formation during fermentation

INTRODUCTION Hydrogen sulfide and related sulfur compounds produced internally by yeast during fermentation are considered highly undesirable if they are excreted and exceed threshold concentrations in the finished wine, as they cause an unpleasant "reduced character". The threshold for hydrogen sulfide is on the order of parts per billion and that for some of the other reduced sulfur compounds...

Fiber-Amplifier-Enhanced QEPAS Sensor for Simultaneous Trace Gas Detection of NH3 and H2S

A selective and sensitive quartz enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy (QEPAS) sensor, employing an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA), and a distributed feedback (DFB) laser operating at 1582 nm was demonstrated for simultaneous detection of ammonia (NH₃) and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S). Two interference-free absorption lines located at 6322.45 cm(-1) and 6328.88 cm(-1) for NH₃ and H₂S detection, re...

Exhaled Hydrogen Sulfide Predicts Airway Inflammation Phenotype in COPD.

BACKGROUND The role of exhaled H2S as a marker of airway inflammation and its relationship with COPD severity remain to be determined. METHODS Airway inflammation was classified in 77 COPD subjects based on the presence of inflammatory cells in induced sputum. We investigated the association between disease phenotype and exhaled H2S, lung function, and plasma levels of several inflammatory fa...

The Coulometric Titration of Acids and Bases in Dimethylsulfoxide Media

The coulometric titration of 20-200 peq of acids and bases in DMSO media is described. In the titration of bases, the electro-oxidation of hydrogen at a platinized platinum electrode is used as the source of protons. The conditions for 100 % current efficiency at this electrode are low current density to avoid passivity and regular treatment of the electrode with potassium dichromate-sulfuric a...
